Actress and singer Dorothy Dandridge was always destined to have her name up in lights, having been born to her entertainer mother Ruby Dandridge in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ruby set up a song-and-dance act for her daughters and sent them on tour around the USA, before Dorothy managed to go her own way and forge a successful career.
