1931 Miss New Orleans winner Dorothy Lamour (real name Mary Leta Dorothy Slaton) started out in showbiz singing with big bands, before breaking into movies.
Most famously, Lamour received above-the-title billing alongside Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in the ‘Road to…’ comedy film series.
