Iowa – Jean Seberg
Unlike a lot of American actresses, Marshalltown, Iowa native Jean Seberg enjoyed her greatest professional success overseas, appearing in numerous French movies including Jean-Luc Goddard’s Breathless.
Seberg’s story came to a tragic end. She was the target on a smear campaign over her support for civil rights movements, which eventually drove her to suicide.
