Ghana boasts West Africa’s largest open-air marketplace, while its capital Accra ranks as Africa’s most expensive urban center. The nation derives its name from one of West Africa’s medieval kingdoms, previously known as Wagadugu. Positioned between neighbors Togo, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso, Ghana holds the historic distinction of becoming sub-Saharan Africa’s first country to achieve independence.
